Temenuzhka Petkova

Minister of Energy of the Republic of Bulgaria

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

For another year, I have the pleasure to welcome you as patron of one of the most significant events in the mining industry – the European Mining Business Forum, organized by the Bulgarian Chamber of Mining and Geology.

This year’s forum will also be one of the key events in the energy sector’s calendar during the first Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The Bulgarian Government is committed to a program that focuses on concrete results. As a Member State President of the Council of the EU, we send three main messages to the citizens of the EU – consensus, competitiveness and cohesion. During the Bulgarian Presidency, we will pay particular attention to one of the topics in the energy field – the gradual and economically viable transition to low-carbon energy, taking into account the specificities of the national energy mix and the fact that thermal power plants account for nearly 40 % of the total energy production of our country.

I am confident that the European Mining Business Forum will be the preferred format for exchange of best practices by representatives of the European companies in the industry; therefore, in the course of the Presidency we will once again show the European image of the Bulgarian mining industry. This year again, the high interest of European companies, industrial and business organizations and representatives of the academia is a guarantee for holding the event successfully. We look forward to seeing you in Sofia on 18 May, 2018 to promote the sustainable development of one of the strategic sectors for the European economy.
