Prof. Lyuben Totev, PhD graduated the Mining and Geology University in 1980 with specialty “Mining Production Technology”. He joined MGU as a doctor-candidate in 1983 and got the doctor degree in 1986. Since 1987 he is elected as assistant, since 1988 he is senior assistant, since 1998 he is assistant professor, and since 2011 he is professor.

He reads lectures in the specialties “Underground Construction”, “Construction Materials”, Specific Methods of Underground Construciton”, “Injection Works in Underground Construction”.

Prof. Tohtev is the author of more thn 150 science and practical science works, articles, reports, patent workbooks, and tutorials.

Since 1999 he chairs the “Underground Construciton” Department at the MGU “St. Ivan Rilski”. He is one of the founders of the specialty and the department “Underground Construction”.

In the period 1999-2003 he is deputy dean of the Mining Technology Facutly at the MGU, and between 2003 – 2011 he is two-mandates dean there.

In November 2011 he is elected as the Rector of the MG “St. Ivan Rilski”, and in Novemver 2015 he has been reelected for a second term.

In 2010 he is elected as a Board Member of the Bulgarian Chamber of Mining and Geology, and since 2015 he is its Deputy Chairman. Since April 2010 he is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Minproekt” AD. Prof. Totev is a member of many science and expert councils. On 31 March 2016 he is elected as the Chairman of the Univeristy Rectors Council of Bulgaria.
